Demonstration sites

The LIFE MySOIL project includes the design, construction, and operation of different pilots for TPH mycoremediation testing in 3 different sites (Spain, France, and Italy) and one additional small pilot to study the technology’s transferability to the remediation of HTF polluted soil. Each site presents distinct characteristics, not only of soil pollution but also of local legislation and ownership, reflecting different needs of administrative and legal permits.

For each of the pilot tests, one active and one control biopile of 50 m3 are designed and settled from the small pilots results.

The site in Spain polluted with TPHs is located in the CEPSA facilities in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva).

Former refinery in Rouen

Pollutant type

TPH (aliphatic and aromatic, long chain)

Pollutant concentration

Up to 25-30 g/kg on the site, 6-10 for the batch used in the project

Soil texture

Silt/fine sand

In France, the site in Petit-Couronne (south of Rouen, Normandy), belongs to one of the partners of the project (Valgo), thus facilitating the pilot assays.

Petrol station in Borgo Faiti

Pollutant type

TPH (aliphatic and aromatic, long chain)

Pollutant concentration

Medium 7 g/kg

Soil texture

Silty-clay/Clay-silty

The Italian site’s polluted soil comes from a petrol station in Borgo Faiti (Lazio Region), as well from a site in a town of Cisliano (near Milan).
