{"id":3597,"date":"2022-02-02T11:01:31","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T11:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifemysoil.eu\/technology-for-removing-petroleum-hydrocarbons-from-contaminated-soil-under-study\/"},"modified":"2022-02-02T11:01:31","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T11:01:31","slug":"technology-for-removing-petroleum-hydrocarbons-from-contaminated-soil-under-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifemysoil.eu\/it\/technology-for-removing-petroleum-hydrocarbons-from-contaminated-soil-under-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology for removing petroleum hydrocarbons from contaminated soil under study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European <strong>LIFE MySOIL<\/strong> project is to <strong>test on a pilot scale the feasibility of mycoremediation which uses fungal inocula to remove petroleum hydrocarbons from soil<\/strong>, a type of substance which is estimated to be present on average in <strong>35 percent of contaminated sites in Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The project, which is part funded by the European Union\u2019s LIFE programme and has a budget of \u20ac2,937,155, seeks to develop an <strong>appropriate, cost-effective and sustainable mycoremediation treatment for recovering contaminated soil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The project includes <strong>three study areas in Spain, Italy and France<\/strong> \u201cwhere we will perform initial characterisation of the soil and contamination, biotreatability tests on a laboratory scale with various fungal inocula and then scale up the experiments until we achieve an optimised pilot test in biopiles,\u201d says Jofre Herrero, the project\u2019s technical coordinator and a researcher at Eurecat\u2019s Water, Air and Soil Unit.<\/p>\n<p>The project further involves drawing up <strong>guidelines for implementing mycoremediation<\/strong> and conducting a <strong>replicability and transferability study<\/strong> for other areas and pollutants.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/\">Eurecat<\/a> technology centre coordinating the project, the LIFE MySOIL consortium has another seven partners: the Autonomous University of Madrid and engineering firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kepler.es\/\">KEPLER<\/a> (Spain), the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitus.it\/en\">Tuscia University<\/a> and engineering firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eni.com\/enirewind\/en-IT\/home.html\">Eni Rewind<\/a> (Italy), engineering firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valgo.com\/en\/\">VALGO<\/a> (France), the environmental biotechnology company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.novobiom.com\/\">Novobiom<\/a> (Belgium) and environmental consultants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isodetect.de\/en\/\">Isodetect<\/a> delivering monitoring services (Germany).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European LIFE MySOIL project is to test on a pilot scale the feasibility of mycoremediation which uses fungal inocula to remove petroleum hydrocarbons from soil, a type of substance which is estimated to be present on average in 35 percent of contaminated sites in Europe.
