The event, targeted to the scientific community, policy makers, and engineering and environmental companies, was organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kepler.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KEPLER Ingenier\u00eda y Ecogesti\u00f3n<\/a> in Seville (Spain).<\/p>\n<p>The Open Day consisted of a session of talks on <strong>bioremediation<\/strong> techniques for soils contaminated with hydrocarbons, with a special focus on <strong>mycoremediation<\/strong>, the technology promoted by LIFE MySOIL that uses fungal inoculums to degrade this type of pollutant.<\/p>\n<p>The bioremediation session started with an introduction to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kepler.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KEPLER, Ingenier\u00eda y Ecogesti\u00f3n<\/a> by <strong>Norbert N\u00e4gele<\/strong>, Director of the company. The public administration was represented by <strong>Ra\u00fal Vega<\/strong>, Head of the Soil Quality Department of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.juntadeandalucia.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/a>, who made a presentation on the microbiological treatment of contaminated soils and associated groundwaters.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7004&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7009&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8220;&#8220;]Following him, <strong>Cynthia Alc\u00e1ntara<\/strong>, Director of Consulting and R&amp;D&amp;I from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kepler.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KEPLER, Ingenier\u00eda y Ecogesti\u00f3n<\/a> delved into in situ chemical reduction and anaerobic bioremediation of groundwater contaminated with percholoroethylene.<\/p>\n<p>The next talk was hosted by <strong>Carlos Garc\u00eda Delgado<\/strong>, Permanent Professor from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uam.es\/uam\/en\/inicio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid<\/a>, who introduced the benefits of the use of fungi in bioremediation, focusing on its scaling up and how circular economy is involded.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7014&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7019&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8220;&#8220;]This block wrapped up with a presentation of a soil modeling project, hosted by representatives from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cepsa.es\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cepsa<\/a>: <strong>Andrea Caso<\/strong>, Soil &amp; Sustainability Advisor; <strong>Antonio Gallego<\/strong>, Senior Exploration Geologist; and <strong>Andr\u00e9s Jim\u00e9nez<\/strong>, Environment Technician.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7024&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7029&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8220;&#8220;]The Open Day continued with a specific session on the LIFE MySOIL project and mycoremediation. <strong>Jofre Herrero<\/strong>, Advanced Researcher and project\u2019s coordinator from <a href=\"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eurecat<\/a>, introduced the initiative and its goal to demonstrate this technology at a pilot scale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anko Fischer<\/strong>, Head of Office in Leipzig from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isodetect.de\/en\/isodetect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Isodetect<\/a>, stepped in to present advanced monitoring tools for assessment of natural pollutant biodegradation and success control of bioremediation.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7024&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8220;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8220;7029&#8243; img_size=&#8220;large&#8220; css=&#8220;&#8220;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8220;&#8220;]The three <a href=\"https:\/\/lifemysoil.eu\/demonstration-sites\/\">demonstration sites<\/a> of the project were then presented.
