[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=““]The LIFE MySOIL project<\/a> celebrated on May 29th<\/sup>, 2024, its third Open Day<\/strong><\/a> aiming to illustrate the scalability of mycoremediation solutions for the clean-up of aged TPH-contaminated industrial soil<\/strong>. The event, targeted to the scientific community, policy makers, and engineering and environmental companies, was organised by KEPLER Ingenier\u00eda y Ecogesti\u00f3n<\/a> in Seville (Spain).<\/p>\n

The Open Day consisted of a session of talks on bioremediation<\/strong> techniques for soils contaminated with hydrocarbons, with a special focus on mycoremediation<\/strong>, the technology promoted by LIFE MySOIL that uses fungal inoculums to degrade this type of pollutant.<\/p>\n

The bioremediation session started with an introduction to KEPLER, Ingenier\u00eda y Ecogesti\u00f3n<\/a> by Norbert N\u00e4gele<\/strong>, Director of the company. The public administration was represented by Ra\u00fal Vega<\/strong>, Head of the Soil Quality Department of the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/a>, who made a presentation on the microbiological treatment of contaminated soils and associated groundwaters.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7004″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7009″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=““]Following him, Cynthia Alc\u00e1ntara<\/strong>, Director of Consulting and R&D&I from KEPLER, Ingenier\u00eda y Ecogesti\u00f3n<\/a> delved into in situ chemical reduction and anaerobic bioremediation of groundwater contaminated with percholoroethylene.<\/p>\n

The next talk was hosted by Carlos Garc\u00eda Delgado<\/strong>, Permanent Professor from the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid<\/a>, who introduced the benefits of the use of fungi in bioremediation, focusing on its scaling up and how circular economy is involded.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7014″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7019″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=““]This block wrapped up with a presentation of a soil modeling project, hosted by representatives from Cepsa<\/a>: Andrea Caso<\/strong>, Soil & Sustainability Advisor; Antonio Gallego<\/strong>, Senior Exploration Geologist; and Andr\u00e9s Jim\u00e9nez<\/strong>, Environment Technician.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7024″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7029″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=““]The Open Day continued with a specific session on the LIFE MySOIL project and mycoremediation. Jofre Herrero<\/strong>, Advanced Researcher and project\u2019s coordinator from Eurecat<\/a>, introduced the initiative and its goal to demonstrate this technology at a pilot scale.<\/p>\n

Anko Fischer<\/strong>, Head of Office in Leipzig from Isodetect<\/a>, stepped in to present advanced monitoring tools for assessment of natural pollutant biodegradation and success control of bioremediation.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7024″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=“1\/2″][vc_single_image image=“7029″ img_size=“large“ css=““][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=““]The three demonstration sites<\/a> of the project were then presented.
